It feels like the holidays this year are holding a special meaning. After last year, when many of us spent the holiday season home alone, this year, we feel a little safer and comfortable spending time with our friends and family. What are some fun ways families can spend time with each other around the holidays? Here are five fun, safe activities you can do.
Decorate Your Home
The best way to get in the holiday season is to decorate your home. Whatever holiday you celebrate, choose decorations that make you happy. Even if you select decorations that celebrate the winter season, you’re bringing joy into the house in a way that the whole family can participate. And don’t forget to decorate outside so you can spread joy to others.
Bake with Your Family
A fun activity you can do with family members of all ages is baking. Whether you simply mix up some cake batter or choose more complex holiday cookie recipes, everyone can participate in the fun. Assign roles to kids based on their age. For example, little children can help mix ingredients with a bit of help and always have fun decorating. Older children can spearhead the entire process, and you can be there to assist.
Take a Trip
If you’re tired of being cooped up at home, now is a great time to take a trip when the weather is cold. You can head out to the New Jersey coast to see the ocean. Or travel to a nearby community to look at holiday lights. Cities with great holiday events and activities include:

Host a Secret Santa
If you want to get into the gift-giving spirit of the season, one of the best ways to do that is to host a Secret Santa. This way, each participant is only responsible for one gift. You can set a budget to keep things affordable and make the surprise part of the celebration as the recipient has to guess who gave the gift. If you’re not able to get together in person, you can do a Secret Santa via Zoom.
